Real Steel is loosely based on Richard Matheson's short story "Steel," set in the near future, where boxing is now done by specially crafted robots. Charles Kenton (played by Hugh Jackman) is a broken former boxer turned underground robot boxing promoter. He is doing everything he can to hit it big in matches but ends up loosing money. On top of that his ex-girlfriend Bailey (played by Evangeline Lilly) died and leaving him as the guardian to his young son that he hardly knows. With all of these troubles coming at him from all directions, he has to pull his career together and learn how he can redeem himself by trying to fix the professional and own troubles in his life.
This is a great family oriented movie that's built on its high energy and traits. It focuses more on the affairs in the lead character’s personal life rather than the fight scenes. They do put a lot of attention on the clashes and you won't be let down if that's what you want to see. As enjoyable as the action might get at times, the real meaning of the film comes from the cast. They put on some touching performances, and this is what everyone would like to see as far as casting is concerned. Almost every star in this film made their characters believable. I wish the acting of every film was appropriately done like it was in this movie.
