LD Entertainment will release Matthew McConaughey’s comedy and thriller film Killer Joe on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital download on December 21, 2012, and this home video release will offer both the Unrated Director's Cuts and Theatrical release which will be available exclusively on DVD.
Killer Joe is directed by William Friedkin and the screenplay is written by Tracy Letts based on his play of the same name. They both worked together on 2006's Bug. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as Killer Joe Cooper, Emile Hirsch as Chris Smith, Juno Temple as Dottie Smith, Gina Gershon as Sharla Smith, Thomas Haden Church as Ansel Smith and Marc Macaulay as Digger Soames.
The film was first showed at the Venice Film Festival in 2011 but a conflict with the MPAA over the movie's NC-17 rating delayed its US release for nearly a year. The story follows Smith, a drug dealer who is badly in need of cash. With the assist of several others, comprising his father and his mother’s boyfriend, Smith decides to hire a killer, “Cooper”, to kill his mother and collect her insurance money.
