The Hobbit Coming to DVD / Blu-ray summer 2013, review

I've been looking forward to seeing Peter Jackson's “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” for a while now, and it definitely did not disappoint me. I like Jackson's LOTR Trilogy. They are some of my all time favorite movies. So, I looked forward with high expectations, which for the most part were met.

The acting is outstanding in this movie. Once again Ian McKellen delivers an outstanding performance as Gandalf the Grey (the Wizard). Martin Freeman is also excellent in his role as Bilbo Baggins, the main character of this film. I like the chemistry between them, I felt like they were ideal together. Another remarkable performance is the person who plays Thorin (Richard Armitage), and the rest of the cast give solid performances as well.

The film tells the story of Bilbo, who is all of a sudden called upon by Gandalf to take part in an adventure to support a group of dwarves to repossess their lost treasure. Along the way, they come across some creatures like goblins, orcs and trolls, including one who appears to have several personalities and is in possession of a powerful item.

The Hobbit Soundtrack by Howard Shore is outstanding. He brings new epic music that play throughout the movie and it gets your heart pumping. He also uses some old pieces from the LOTR trilogy and puts them in here.

The only problems I had with The Hobbit, was that it takes a bit long to make a start. That appears to be a big issue with most viewers. But if you can enjoy it for what it is its not that bad. It may not be the same as The Fellowship of the Ring, but its a great start.

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is expected to be released on DVD and Blu-ray, with an extended edition having nearly half-an-hour Uncut Scenes set for release on March 19, 2013.

  1. I’m a really huge Tolkien fan so I added this movie to my Blockbuster @Home rental queue. I’m a DISH employee, so that’s how I discovered and started using my Blockbuster @Home rental service. I used to buy every movie I wanted, but my bank account hated for it. Once I started renting movies and video games through Blockbuster @Home from DISH, I noticed that because of its low monthly fee how much money it freed up in my budget. I’m going to use all the extra money I’m saving toward a new big screen TV.
