Chris Van Allsburg's most famous 1981 book “Jumanji” is about to be given the Hollywood treatment once more. The book was adapted for the big screen back in 1995, which was directed by Joe Johnston based on the script by Greg Taylor, Jonathan Hensleigh and Jim Strain.
Favorites Alan, Sam, Sarah, Judy and Peter are set to be brought to life by the screen writer, Zach Helm, who wrote / directed “Stranger than Fiction” and “Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium” films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Teitler and Matt Tolmach are attached to produced the film adaptation.
The story takes place in a small town in New Hampshire. Alan is a little boy who stumbling onto a construction site where he finds a buried chest. It holds a board game called "Jumanji", it appears fascinating, and he takes it home. Shortly, Alan and his neighbor Sarah start to play it. But when Sarah rolls the dice, words come into view in the middle of the board . . . "At night they fly, you better run, these winged things are not much fun”. But when Sarah drops the dice, words come into view in the middle of the board . . . "At night they fly, you better run, these winged things are not much fun”. Alan then releases the dice, and sees on the board "In the jungle you must wait, until the dice read five or eight." Suddenly, Alan disappears. Fast-forward to two and a half decades later, when Judy and Peter move into the house where Alan used to live. They discover the game and start to play. They realize too late that once you start, you can't discontinue. The only way to stop it is to finish the game, with the one who rolls the winning number to end yelling out "Jumanji!"
