PURE Movie Adaptation in the works, James Ponsoldt to Helm the Project

Every year, movie-makers look to young-adult novels for fresh ideas for movies. Often, these novels are blockbuster hits with a large fan base, which is almost certain there will be a lot of interest in an adaptation. All it takes is someone in the film production company to show interest in the rights to a novel. The odds of a novel being made into a film are very rare, and the chances that it will become a hit are even smaller. In the past year, we have seen some young adult book-based movies, such as The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer, have topped the box office. Most of these movies are from famous authors who have had previous novels made into cinema productions.

Pure is another young adult book and the first novel in a planned trilogy of books by Julianna Baggott. After a heated bedding war, Fox 2000 has acquired the film rights to the series in 2010. The film will produce by Karen Rosenfelt, who is one of the producers on the Twilight Saga series and whose Fox 2000 films comprise The Devil Wears Prada and Marley & Me. The company also hired James Ponsoldt to direct the adaptation whose credits include Smashed, Off the Black and The Spectacular Now.

The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where Detonations have arisen; causing death to many, and left human Fused with items or even other human. Pressia, a young girl bumps into a person who is known as a Pure. He is a reference to those who survived the incident unmarked by living in a dome that protected them from the Detonations. Partridge is the only one in the history of the dome to have escaped its confines as he embarks on a journey to find his mother. After Pressia meets the boy she begins helping him and is pulled down into a series of events that will forever intertwine her destiny with Partridge's.
