A Most Wanted Man, based on John Le Carre’s best-selling spy novel, is currently in development with Anton Corbijn (The American) attached to direct. Anton usually directs music videos and this is his second feature that has nothing to do with music. Andrew Bovell wrote the script for the film and it stars Robin Wright as Martha Sullivan, Grigoriy Dobrygin as Issa Karpov, Rachel McAdams as Annabel Richter and Philip Seymour Hoffman as Günther Bachmann. Gail Egan and Andrea Calderwood are producing “A Most Wanted Man” for Potboiler Productions and Demarest Films is co-financing and co-producing it.
Carre wrote over two dozen novels. He, as most know, worked for British intelligence in the sixties and most of his books based on the experiences he gained during his time with British intelligence. His “A Most Wanted Man” follows Issa Karpov, who has possible links to known terrorists. Most of the foreign intelligence services are interested in him, and all for different reasons. He has taken refuge in Hamburg and Thomas Brue, an emotionally drained businessman there, is determined to help him.
