In Total War: Warhammer, you expect complex processes of strategic, diplomatic, tactical and economic simulations and various playful elements. But when you start the game it won’t run or load as you want or you encounter performance issues, then don’t despair, because in this guide you’ll find some useful troubleshooting tips that may help you to fix some of these errors and crashes in TWWH.
First, please make sure that your PC hardware is compatible to run the Total War Warhammer. Thus, some errors on insufficient hardware can trace, such as a black screen, which then leads to a crash or other crashes. These often happen when the developer logos are displayed, or even at the very beginning or during the actual gameplay. This is mostly due to your video card. You should always have installed or use the same graphics cards, as Nvidia or Radeon with the latest drivers.

Recommended
Operating System - Windows 7/8.1/10 64-bit
Processor - Intel Core i5-4570 3.2 GHz
Memory - 8 GB RAM
Graphic - (DirectX 11) AMD Radeon R9 270X 2048 MB/NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 2048 MB @1080p
DirectX - Version 11
HDD Capacity - 35 GB
Notice, however, if your PC hardware has only the minimum system specs, then you can play only on the lowest graphics settings. In addition, the frame rate for big fights in the campaign will sometimes fall to 15-25 frames per second. Therefore, correct battle atmosphere turns up only when you meet the recommended system requirements.
- Screen Freeze: Your screen freezes and nothing works? Then try to update the graphics card driver or restart Steam in offline mode. Another possibility would be to check that both Total War: Warhammer itself or Steam will not be stopped by your firewall. If this is the case, then you can mark them as exceptions and to add these programs.
- Multiplayer Mode Issues: If you have problems to play in multiplayer mode, then it might be that the servers are currently overloaded. This is often the case for a launch. So wait until the first rush has dropped and try again later.
- Black Screen on Startup: If updating the graphics card driver has brought the black screen, then you should first shut down and then start the game as an administrator. Another trick: Minimize TWWH on the taskbar when you start it and the black screen appears. To fix this issue you can maximize the game again, then this problem disappears almost by itself.
- Image Shifts and (white) Flicker: To resolve this issue, you have to simply disable the V-sync feature of your graphics card. The so-called vertical sync prevents your graphics card to update the image data. For a flicker, you should change the display from the setting.
- Low Frame Rate (FPS) and Lags: Even if your PC's hardware meet the Total War Warhammer system requirements, it can happen sometimes that you see only a few frames per second, then you can set the priority over the button-manager for the game high. If you have an Nvidia graphics card, then go to the control center of this map and set the mode for the 3D settings on maximum performance. If you are playing on a laptop, you should ensure that you use the correct graphics card and not the on-board card.
