We previously reported the rumor that Jake Gyllenhaal takes over the leading role in the film adaptation of The Division. Now Ubisoft has officially confirmed the film and also included Jessica Chastain as female lead.
The film is based on the Ubisoft’s shooter video game, The Division, released in March 2016 shooter. In the lead roles are Jessica Chastain (The Martians, Interstellar, The Help, Zero Dark Thirty) and Jake Gyllenhaal (End of Watch, Nightcrawler, Southpaw). Both are involved not only as lead cast in the project but also the film is produced jointly with Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker (Beasts of No Nation) Nine Stories Productions and Chastain's production company freckle film.
Ubisoft is serious about the involvement in the film area. The first project was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time in 2010, also with Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role and Assassin's Creed movie starring Michael Fassbender to be released on December 27, 2016. Ubisoft Motion Pictures also working on movie adaptation of Splinter Cell at New Regency with Tom Hardy, Ghost Recon with Warner Brothers, Watchdogs with Sony Pictures Entertainment and New Regency and Rabbids with Sony Pictures Entertainment.
