All Endings and Avoid Bugs in Robber Baron: KC Deliverance

This guide provides an updated walkthrough for the "Robber Baron" side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, covering all possible outcomes and addressing known bugs. This quest becomes available after completing the "Next to Godliness" side quest and speaking with Hans Capon.

Starting the Quest:

After the fashion show, Sir Hanush tasks you with removing the robber baron (a relative of Captain Bernard) from the region, ideally without bloodshed. Captain Bernard joins you on this endeavor.

Reaching the Bandit Camp:

You can travel with Bernard and his men or go alone. Regardless, you'll arrive at a familiar camp (from "Hunting with Hans"). Crucially, avoid speaking to Hans at this camp. This can trigger a bug, forcing you to restart the quest from the conversation with Hans and Hanush. Instead, immediately speak to Bernard.

Investigating the Bandit's Whereabouts:

Bernard sends you to investigate two farms. Visiting only one is sufficient:

  • North Farm: This is the easier option if you have decent Speech skills (around 10/9/7). You can persuade the inhabitants to reveal the bandits' location, providing a fast travel point close to the camp. After the initial encounter in the woods, continue forward to discover the robber baron's camp.
  • South Farm: Speak to the woman at the farm to learn that her husband tracked a wounded bandit. Follow the blood trail into the forest. Offering bandages to the woman yields a small reward.

Negotiating with Wolflin (The Robber Baron):

Return to Bernard and report your findings. You can attempt to convince him to negotiate with Wolflin. To persuade Bernard, you'll need high Speech skills (around 12/13/16). The actual number of bandits is between 10 and 15, but your answer doesn't affect the negotiation. Successfully convincing Bernard earns you a tabard, which you must wear when approaching the bandit camp. You also need to unequip your weapons.

Approach the camp entrance and speak to the guard. He won't be hostile if you're unarmed and wearing the tabard. Follow him to Wolflin.

Dialogue Options and Outcomes (Requires high Speech/Charisma, ideally 14 Speech and 13 Charisma):

Several dialogue options with Wolflin lead to different outcomes:

  • Discuss his motives ("I heard your family is cursed" and "Why are you damaging the Lords of...?"): This option, available with sufficient Speech, allows you to learn more about Wolflin's background.
  • Let him go and keep the loot: Wolflin initially agrees but changes his mind when you mention Hanush's powerful allies (like Sir Radzig). Hanush will be reasonably satisfied with this outcome.
  • Let him go, keep the loot, and pay compensation: You convince Wolflin to leave and pay reparations. You promise to inform Hanush about Milota's machinations (with whom Wolflin has a feud). Hanush will be very pleased.
  • Let him go and keep the loot together: Wolflin agrees, but Hanush will be less enthusiastic, though no one is harmed.
  • Challenge him to a duel: Wolflin accepts. If you defeat him, his men will attack you. You can either fight or flee. Despite Hanush's desire for a peaceful resolution, he will still be satisfied with this outcome.

Fighting the Bandits (Not Recommended):

If your Speech and Charisma are insufficient, or you choose a violent approach, you can lead Bernard's men to attack the camp. This triggers a quest objective to kill Wolflin. This route is highly discouraged due to a persistent bug where Wolflin is not properly registered as dead after being killed. This prevents quest progression, making it impossible to speak with Hans or Bernard and complete the quest.

Post-Encounter and Reporting to Hanush:

After dealing with Wolflin, speak to Bernard at your camp's exit. You can also talk to Hans, who will be pleased regardless of your chosen solution.

Critical Save Point:

Before reporting back to Hanush, create a new save file. A notorious bug can corrupt saves created after speaking to Hanush, potentially making them unreadable. If this happens, revert to the save you made before speaking to him. This bug has persisted through various patches, so this precaution is still highly recommended.

If you avoid the bug, Hanush rewards you with the Magdeburg Cuirass armor, completing the "Robber Baron" quest.

Key Takeaways to Avoid Bugs:

  • Do not speak to Hans at the initial camp before talking to Bernard.
  • Avoid the combat route if possible.
  • Create a save before reporting to Hanush.

By following these guidelines, you should be able to complete the "Robber Baron" quest without encountering game-breaking bugs and experience all the different outcomes.
