Updated January 2025
The "Miracles While You Wait" side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance tasks you with gathering unusual ingredients for the Charlatan. This guide provides an updated walkthrough for each item, accounting for potential variations and optimal strategies.
Quest Giver: Charlatan
Objective: Collect the following items:
- Procopius' Tooth
- A Topping Out Branch
- A Cat's Paw
- Dead Man's Shroud
1. Procopius' Tooth:
Procopius can be found near the monastery, close to the tavern frequented by Matthew and Fritz. You have several options to acquire his tooth:
- Persuasion/First Aid: Convince him through dialogue (using Rhetoric or by having First Aid II) to have the tooth extracted by the blacksmith. You'll need to escort him, preventing him from turning back. This is generally the most honorable approach.
- Fistfight: If you engage Procopius in a fistfight and knock him unconscious, you can loot the tooth from his body. This is a quicker, but less savory method.
Returning the tooth to the Charlatan rewards you with five Associations.
2. A Topping Out Branch:
A topping out branch is a decorated branch placed on the roof of a building under construction. You'll find one at the Sasau monastery construction site.
- Location: Climb the scaffolding to the highest point. Look for a kind of impeller (a rotating part). Turn almost 180 degrees to the right, and you'll see the branch.
- Acquisition: The easiest way to get the branch is to shoot it down with an arrow. This is much simpler than trying to climb onto the small beam near it. Once it's on the ground, you can retrieve it.
The Charlatan rewards you with a potion for this item.
3. Cat's Paw:
The Charlatan needs a cat's paw, which is possessed by a Farkle player usually found in the Sasau tavern.
- Options:
- Farkle Game: Challenge him to a game of Farkle with a starting bet of 100 Groschen. Winning the game will net you the paw.
- Persuasion/Intimidation: Use your Rhetoric skill to persuade or intimidate him into giving you the paw (requiring values exceeding 11/14/8 respectively).
- Purchase: Simply buy the paw for 150 Groschen.
Delivering the paw grants you a Trinity Cube. Having three of these dice grants an advantage in future Farkle games.
4. Dead Man's Shroud:
After collecting the other items, the Charlatan asks you to retrieve the shroud from the recently deceased Loukota.
- Location: Loukota's body is in the small church southwest of Sasau (the same one from the "Restless Spirit" quest).
- Acquisition: Enter the church and locate the body. It's best to do this at night or when no one is present, as it's considered trespassing. Take the shroud from the body.
- Dealing with Guards (If caught): If you're caught, you can use Rhetoric or pay a bribe to avoid trouble.
Return to the Charlatan at his house (west of Sasau). After the exchange, an angry mob will appear. You'll need to calm them down through dialogue (requiring a Rhetoric skill of 11). Avoid the rebellious dialogue option, as it will escalate the situation and force you into a fight.
Post-Quest:
After dealing with the mob, you can loot the Charlatan's house. There are a couple of chests, one of which sometimes contains the Alchemist I dream book. There used to be a bug involving an invisible third chest, but it may have been patched in newer versions.
This updated guide provides clearer instructions and strategies for completing the "Miracles While You Wait" quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
