Language Barrier Walkthrough: KC Deliverance

Updated January 2025

The "Language Barrier" quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance tasks you with finding a translator for a captured Cuman, offering a chance to uncover a hidden treasure. This guide provides an updated walkthrough reflecting current gameplay knowledge.

Starting the Quest:

Instead of relying on random encounters while traveling east from Sasau towards Ledetchko, the most reliable way to trigger this quest is to head directly to the mill located on the riverbank east of Sasau. Speak to the miller; he'll offer you work, revealing the captured Cuman.

Dealing with the Cuman:

You can initially interact with the Cuman, who will plead for his freedom. While taking him directly to Rattay completes the quest quickly, it prevents you from uncovering the treasure and learning about his story.

Finding the Translator:

Locate the man dressed in green near the riverbank. He'll offer translation services for a fee. Haggling is possible, so negotiate a reasonable price. Agree to have him accompany you back to the mill. Once there, initiate the interrogation.

Interrogation Outcomes and Choices:

The interrogation offers several paths:

  • Simply Freeing or Beating the Cuman: These options don't progress the quest towards the treasure.

  • Trusting the Translator: If you believe the translator's initial story, he'll lead you into an ambush. Defeat the ambushers and then track down the fleeing translator, who will lead you to the treasure.

  • Language Barrier Walkthrough, Treasure Location Map, KCD, KC Deliverance
Questioning the Translator Further (Rhetoric Check): If your Rhetoric skill is sufficiently high (around 7/0/5 is a good guideline, though the exact values might vary slightly depending on game version and difficulty), you can press the translator further. He'll eventually reveal the planned ambush.

  • Having the Cuman Lead You to the Treasure: This is the most direct route. After the interrogation (regardless of whether you believed the translator or not), you can directly ask the Cuman to take you to the treasure. He will comply.

Reaching the Treasure:

Once at the treasure location, you have several options regarding the Cuman:

  • Release Him: Let him go free.
  • Send Him to Rattay: This option rewards you with an additional 100 groschen.
  • Kill Him: Eliminate him on the spot.

The Treasure:

The treasure consists of 200 groschen and an antidote. (Note: the exact contents may vary slightly).

Returning to the Miller:

Return to the miller after acquiring the treasure. You can either give him half as promised or attempt to persuade him (with Persuasion, Speech, or possibly other skills, around 7/4/13 being a rough guide) that you found nothing. Regardless of your choice, the quest concludes.

This updated walkthrough provides a more accurate and comprehensive guide to completing the "Language Barrier" quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
