The "Damsel in Distress" side quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance tasks you with rescuing Esther, Florian's kidnapped lover. Florian, overwhelmed with fear, tasks Henry with the rescue. Here's a breakdown of how to complete this quest, updated for clarity and accuracy:
Starting the Quest:
Begin by speaking with Florian. He'll explain Esther's kidnapping and provide the initial information you need. You can also gain information from the bathhouse owner in Sasau, who may direct you to Florian if you haven't met him yet.
Finding Esther:
Florian knows Esther's location: a bandit camp in the southern part of the marked search area. You can approach the camp from the north or by following the river south and then taking a path around the hill.
Rescuing Esther (Multiple Approaches):
The game offers several ways to rescue Esther:
- Direct Assault: If you're confident in your combat skills, you can directly attack the camp and fight the three bandits.
- Stealth Approach (Night): For a quieter approach, infiltrate the camp at night. You can eliminate the bandits silently using stealth takedowns or avoid them altogether.
- Stealth Rescue (No Combat): If you prefer a non-violent solution, sneak into the camp at night and attempt to pick the lock on the hut where Esther is held. The lock is relatively easy to pick, requiring minimal lockpicking skill.
- Key Acquisition: The bandits carry the key to Esther's hut. You can obtain the key by pickpocketing a bandit or by defeating them in combat.
Important Note: "Miracles While You Wait" Bug:
A known bug can prevent you from interacting with Esther immediately after rescuing her if you haven't progressed in the "Miracles While You Wait" quest. If you encounter this, complete some of the charlatan's tasks before returning to Esther. After the Rescue:
Once Esther is free, speak with her. You'll have dialogue options regarding Florian's behavior (whether he's a "sissy" or was genuinely blackmailed), but these choices don't affect your subsequent conversation with Florian.
Crucially, tell Esther to go with you. This triggers a fast travel sequence that takes you back to Sasau
