In order to upgrade your weapons in the Demon's Souls remake on PlayStation 5, you will need to free blacksmith Ed, give him the soul of the Flamelurker and find many materials.
There are a number of ways you can upgrade your weapons in Demon's Souls, but to unlock the best options you need to meet several conditions. You must have killed the Flamelurker boss in the Stonefang Tunnel, and bring his soul to the blacksmith Ed who is at the bottom of the moving platforms in the first area of the tunnels.
Even without this soul, Ed can upgrade all weapons with all components. But to forge the unique weapons, it will be necessary to give him said soul. Demon's Souls: Where to Find The Stones For The Forge?
Things get tricky to upgrade your weapons to max rank, you need large amounts of shards and base stones, then pure stones which are rare or even unique. Here is their position or the places where each type can be obtained by killing monsters. As a rule of thumb, killing Crystal Lizards with a black tendency and maximum luck is the best way to get your hands on the precious stones.
Hardstones
For the +10 on a weapon, you need 35 Shards, 18 Large Shards, 9 Chunks and 1 Pure hardstone.
Shards and Large Shards can be purchased from Filthy Man Vendor in 2-1 and 2-2 for 500 Souls.
Chunks: Crystal Lizards of 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, and 2-2. Scale Miners of 2-1 and 2-2 very rarely give it when killed.
The pure stone is in 2-2, after the elevator, and the Black Tendency. On a corpse above the lizard nest.
Sharpstones
For the +10 on a weapon, you need 35 Sharpstone Shards, 18 Large Shards, 9 Chunks, and 1 Pure Sharpstone. Their location is the same as for hardstones.
Shards and Large Shards can be purchased from vendor Filthy Man in 2-1 and 2-2 for 500 Souls.
Chunks: Crystal Lizards of 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, and 2-2.
The pure stone is in 2-2, after the elevator, and the Black Tendency. On a corpse above the lizard nest.
Demon's Souls: Graystones
For the +10 on a weapon, you need 15 Shards of Graystone, 6 Chunks and 1 Pure Graystone.
The Flamelurker Archstone is a good destination to farm them. There are rock worms going back in the area. Return to the Nexus and then to the corresponding world until you have had enough.
The Pure Graystone is more complicated, you need a Pure White World Tendency for world 2, then get the Dragon Bone Smasher in 2-2, go talk to Scivir, the Wanderer in 2-2. He can be found hidden at the back of the area near 2 crystal lizards.
Darkmoonstones
For a maximum rank weapon, you need 15 Darkmoonstone Shards, 6 Chunks, and 1 Pure Darkmoonstone.
Shard of Darkmoon Stone can be obtained by farming the Reaper at 4-2. Blige the grave robber, the seller also sells them 3000 souls each.
Chunk can also be obtained on Darkwraiths and White Bow in 4-2.
Pure Darkmoonstone is also found on Lizards 4-2 and 4-3.
Moonlightstones
For a maximum rank weapon, you need 15 Moonlight Shards, 6 Chunks and 1 Pure Moonlightstone.
Shards can be purchased from the Former Royal Mistress of the Tower of Latria (3-1), or farmed from Lizards in 3-1.
Chunk and Pure Stone are obtained by farming 3-2 and 3-3 Lizards in pure black world tendency.
Blessed (Faintstone)
For a maximum rank weapon, you need 15 Faintstone Shards, 6 Chunks and 1 Pure Faintstone.
Shards can be purchased from the Filthy Woman Vendor in 5-2 for 10,000 souls, or obtained from lizards and Dead body in 5-1.
The Chunks are on the Lizards of 5-2 and 5-3. They can also give the pure stone.
The pure stone is given by Worshipper of God / Urbain's Female Follower speaking to her with 20+ in Faith.
Dragonstone
For a weapon of maximum rank, you need 15 Dragonstone Shards, 6 Chunks, and 1 Pure Dragonstone.
World 2-2 lava Bearbug causes shards. The seller in 2-2 offers some, otherwise the Black Phantom near the lizard nest in 2.2.
Large lava Bearbug can give Pieces.
The Pure Stone is on the Archstone after killing the Dragon God.
Mercurystones

Pure stone is found in the Plague Babies swamp of 5-3.
Suckerstone
For a maximum rank weapon, you need 15 Suckerstone Shards, 6 Chunks and 1 Pure Suckerstone.
The Shards and Chunks are found on the phosphorescent slugs of 4-2 and 5-2.
The Pure Suckerstone is in the plague swamp of 5-2.
Marrowstone
For a maximum rank weapon, you need 15 Marrowstone Shards, 6 Chunks and 1 Pure Marrowstone.
Shards and Chunks can be obtained from Giant Ticks in 5-1, and Giant Mosquitoes in 5-2.
Pure stone is not far from other pure stones in 5-3, in Plague Babies swamp
Spiderstone
For a maximum tier weapon, you need 22 Spiderstone Shards, 7 Chunks and 1 Pure Spiderstone.
Shards and Chunks can be obtained from scale miners in 2.2. Reset the area to make them reappear. The rest is obtained in the Arena of the Armored Spider and the Crystal Lizards in 2.1.
The Pure Stone can be found on Archstone of the Armored Spider right after defeating it.
Cloudstone
For a maximum rank shield, you need 20 Cloudstone Shards, 7 Chunks and 1 Pure Cloudstone.
Shards and Chunks are obtained on the dead body near Stormruler of the 4-3 with a ranged weapon, but you have to make sure that they fall to the ground and not into the void. Shards can also be purchased from the vendor released in 4-1 and present in 4-2, Graverobber Blige for 3000 souls each.
The Pure Stone is on Archipstone after killing the Storm King.
