The Machete is now available in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone with the introduction of Season 2. This brand new melee tool can be yours for free if you complete a specific challenge but what does that challenge requires. Here's how to get the Machete quickly in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
To unlock the Machete in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone you'll need to get 15 Backstabber medals in 15 different matches that's a melee kill from behind. It seems simple enough although it can be a real grind if you're not sure what to do. So what would be the best class to run when attempting to do this challenge. Realistically, you can run any class you want as you're only going to be needing to get one melee kill. Until an ample opportunity arises you can run a gun as much as you want. If you're looking to do it fast I recommend equip any SMG so you'll run faster to cover any distance between you and your enemy.
If you can stick on any attachments that will speed up the process please do so. Paranoia is interchangeable with Engineer depending on the lobby. If you find a lot of campers sticking on Engineer can be a good counter to land mines and claymores.
Forward Intel is going to give you a better idea of the map's spawn locations and where you need to flank.
Tracker can be a great tool to give you an idea on enemy foot traffic and follow up with a sneak attack.
Gearhead is useful for generating more field mics, which gives you ample opportunity to get behind an enemy.
Ghost will keep you hidden from Spy Planes and Ninja will keep you quiet.
I would recommend playing a mode like Team Deathmatch to get this done as you'll have more opportunities to sneak under the radar and remain hidden. However, objective modes also provide nice opportunities as you often get a few unaware campers or objective heroes looking at the objective rather than you.
So staying hidden in corners near the objective is a great way to get behind them.
I found the Apocalypse 24/7 playlist seems to be a really good place to go and get this done as there's lots of dark corners and unfamiliar Flanks. The key to this is to be patient don't just run straight at someone expecting to get a kill. You might have to sit and wait for a few seconds before you can go and reap your rewards. There seems to be an issue with this challenge currently, where some of the stats are not quite tracking properly when you do get the Backstabber Medal. But what's even worse is some of these stats are tracking but aren't tracking and by that I mean that when you actually leave the game and come back into it that stat is no longer present and it seems to be something to do with leaving the game early. So I would 100% recommend you stay in the game until the very end.
If you're doing this in Warzone it's going to be much trickier because there's far less people and far less interactions than a regular multiplayer game. But you're also incredibly loud as you don't have your own custom classes to run things like Ninja and you also don't have melee weapons unless you have a custom class. You'll need to run a custom class to get a melee weapon out. My recommendation is to drop into plunder where you'll be equipped with a melee weapon and try to drop onto enemies for a potentially easy stab.
As there's a free to play weekend in Black Ops Cold War for the launch of Season 2 and I'm sure there'll be more throughout the season. You're better off going here and doing it there.
