In this short article, we’ll share some of the best features in the latest Google Pixel Fold smartphone.
Google Pixel Fold is one of the thinnest foldable phones available on the market right now. Xiaomi's Mix Fold 2 was the thinnest foldable prior to this phone at 5.4mm but it's still the thinnest foldable overall because when folded it measures 11.2mm compared to Pixel Fold which measures 12.1mm. So both Xiaomi's and Google's foldables are the thinnest out there.
But what makes the Pixel Fold way better than Xiaomi Mix Fold 2 is that the hinge is strong enough to hold it at any angle which Samsung calls the Flex mode. This is a key and useful feature of foldable phones so good to see Google didn't make any compromises here.
IPX8 water-resistant rating: Only Samsung and Huawei offer water-resistant ratings on their foldable phones so far. That changes with the Pixel Fold as Google is also joining the bandwagon.
Stainless steel frame: The frame of the Pixel Fold is made from stainless steel which is a much stronger and premium material than the aluminum on the Pixel 7 Pro.
Dual-screen interpreter mode and multitasking: Foldables are known for offering way better multitasking experience than the candy bar phones and the same is true for the Pixel Fold. The multitasking capability includes easy drag-and-drop support between them.
Google has also optimized over 50 of its own apps for the big screen experience – including things like Gmail, YouTube, Meet, etc. and worked with developer partners to optimize the top apps across different categories.
Samsung has been making foldables for years now but they still don't include their best cameras on their most expensive phone. Thankfully, Google isn't following suit and actually provided us with the latest camera configuration including the 5x periscope zoom lens. It's not their best camera setup but still features a periscope zoom lens which we still won't get with the Z Fold 5.
Google got the cover screen right. It actually features a display that doesn't feel like it's cramped. It's 5.8" compared to the Z Fold 4's 6.2" but it's much wider and much more useful for everyday tasks.
The Pixel Fold comes with all the Google software bells and whistles you get on their regular Pixel phones such as the Magic eraser, photo unblur, cinematic video, motion mode, real tone, live translator and interpreter, long software support, and more.
It's also worth mentioning that the inner bezels are huge and kind of laughable in 2023 when competing devices look so much better.
The Pixel Fold is priced at $1800 same as the Z Fold 4 and will be available in stores in June.
