Samsung is now finishing up One UI 7 and Android 15. For a few highly popular handsets, this software update will be the final new version of Android. For a total of twelve phones, the update will end after or possibly even before. However, you are still not required to replace your phones right away.
With the release of the Galaxy S21 phones, Samsung initiated a new updating policy. Future generations of smartphones will receive security upgrades for five years and new Android versions for four years starting with these models. But eventually, it will come to an end, and the following models will be affected by that:
Samsung Galaxy S21
Galaxy S21+
Galaxy S21 Ultra
Galaxy Note20
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy S20
Samsung Galaxy S20+
Galaxy S20 Ultra
Galaxy S20 FE
Galaxy Z Fold 2
Galaxy Z Flip 5G
Samsung Galaxy A72
The Android 15 upgrade will no longer be available for smartphones such as the Galaxy S20 or Note 20 series. These phones have already been phased out. Handsets such as the Galaxy S21 series are important but there will not be any significant Android upgrade after Android 15 and One UI 7 for them. However, security patches will continue for a minimum of another year. When it comes to the Galaxy S20 or Galaxy Note 20 series, things are different. Occasionally, there are still security updates available for them.
It will be clear which smartphones will receive the major update and which will not when Samsung publishes Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung occasionally catches us off guard with its choices because sometimes even phones that are far too old still get a software update.
