Simple tip to improve PS5 audio quality

Indeed, well-optimized visuals are fantastic. Yet a truly enjoyable PS5 gaming experience depends on the quality of the audio as well. Sony has provided a useful option that aims to provide you with surround sound quality even when your TV's speakers are integrated. However, that doesn't work for everyone.

The PS5 boasts impressive visual capabilities, including 4K resolution, HDR, and 120 Hz. However, the sound is also important when there are gunshots and grenade explosions on screen.

If you are currently using simply the inbuilt speakers on your TV, you may be able to get a little more surround sound out of it with the help of your PS5. However, a matching sound setup is necessary for the audio surroundings to match the picture.

Setting up 3D audio for TV speakers is possible through the PS5's sound settings. The related setting is located under "Settings" - "Sound" - "3D audio for TV speakers."

When setting up the function, you must make sure that there isn't a lot of distracting background noise. Now take out your PS5 controller, turn on the built-in microphone, choose a comfortable spot to sit, and begin the process.

Now, certain sound snippets that were recorded by your PS5 controller will play on your TV. These recordings will be used for fine-tuning to make the sound reproduction feel more spatial. After everything is set up, you can try comparing the two alternatives by flipping between standard stereo sound and 3D audio.

So should everyone using the built-in TV speakers go into the settings right away and turn on 3D audio? No. Many players have complained in various forums that they prefer the standard stereo mix over the PS5's 3D audio soundscape.

Audio is a matter of taste, much like many other things in life. While some gamers may find the PS5's 3D audio mix unappealing, others find it much better.

A word of caution for PS5 owners: the 3D audio feature for TV speakers is just not meant to be utilized in conjunction with a soundbar. Of course, you can still give it a shot.

Notably, the PS5 has the same functionality for headphones. So this might also be worth a try if you want to add a little bit more spatial sound to your stereo headset.
