Combat tips: The best defense in Space Marine 2 is offense since attacking opponents is how you mostly remain alive. You have armor segments and health bar, your armor takes damage first and your health only decreases after your armor is completely destroyed. Even though armor can restore with time, killing adversaries by execution is a far faster way to do so. By holding down the Right Stick, you can execute these moves on adversaries who are red-glowing and staggered.

You'll recover some or all of your armor depending on the kind of enemy you face; stronger opponents will clearly reward you more, but you can also use an Execution to recover health if you time it correctly. If you use melee attacks to do significant damage to an enemy, you can regain the white portion of your health bar after being hit. Executions also count as melee attacks once they deal significant damage. Thus, you will instantly regain a large portion of your health if you can initiate an Execution after taking a significant damage.

Another unique technique you have is the ability to use your sidearm to launch a special attack called "gun strike" on an enemy when they have the crosshair over their head, which occurs following a perfect Parry or Dodge. To deal the enemy heavy damage, just press R2 or RT without targeting. Very helpful in inflicting damage to Warriors and other powerful opponents, but it may also be used to quickly execute an enemy who is positioned to be hit by both a gun strike and an execution. Pulling the trigger will not only kill the opponent but also give you back your armor. I usually advise choosing that choice over the lengthy melee finishers.

You should normally never undervalue your sidearm because you will need to rely on it more than you may imagine because you can typically only carry one primary weapon, one melee weapon, and one sidearm. Although there are even more restrictive kits for specific operating classes, this is still not an issue because your available selection of pistols is pretty strong.

The Plasma Pistol is my all-time favorite since it features an overheating mechanism and can charge individual bullets to increase their damage output. On normal difficulty, two charged shots are faster than a standard melee combo and occasionally killing a Tyranid Warrior.
